The legendary Melanie (Safka) started making waves with “Beautiful People” in 1968, and attracted national attention when she stepped onto the stage at Woodstock. Yes, the real Woodstock. The summer of ’69. Those “3 Days of Peace & Music” that included such influential artists as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who… and a young, gifted singer-songwriter simply known as Melanie. As dawn broke and the rain began to fall, Melanie performed on the stage that transformed a generation. The stage that changed music forever. The candles shining in that early-morning rain inspired her poet’s heart, and the anthemic “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)” had already begun to write itself. By 1971, she was an internationally known artist with Top 40 hits such as “Look What They’ve Done to My Song, Ma,” “Ring The Living Bell” and “Brand New Key.”
Please join Melanie for an extraordinary evening in the intimacy of The Hideaway Cafe,” St. Petersburg’s Original Listening Room on Saturday, February 3, 2018.
