It's our big day again. 7 Years!! Wow. It's a big one every year because it's still a bit of a shock to me that the Hideaway even exists let alone is able to celebrate 7 years of music-making, with me somehow at the helm. We've had so many incredible moments over the years, so many friendships. Sometimes I sit alone at the bar late night and run the reel. I'm incredibly grateful for this place. So many talented friends have paved the way and I just want to say thank you to each of you. I wish everyone of you could walk through these doors today so we could raise a glass to the good times we've all had together.
It does take a good bit of work to keep these doors swinging and I still stumble around trying to figure it all out... but I love this job and pray I can keep it for years to come. To every one of you that's ever stepped foot inside, ordered a beer, a Gibson, a pizza, a nice glass of wine and supported the rich talent on stage, I thank you! To the hundreds of artists that have poured it out and left us with something profound to think about, sending some of us back to the drawing board in awe, I thank you! To all my recording artists, thank you for choosing the Hideaway and letting me work on your projects and for so often, letting me drive. There's no greater pleasure and honor than producing someone else's music... lots of trust and I never take it lightly. To the best staff an employer could ever ask for... you are all family. Thank you! To my wife and partner who does more than you'll ever know... Mwah!
I'd also like to take this moment to acknowledge and thank the Gregory family. Andrew (who helps coach my son, Brennan, and has become a good friend) and his brother recently lost their mother, Bonnie. Bonnie was a very talented boogie woogie pianist for over 70 years. After she passed, they needed a home for the piano they grew up listening to. With little time and no idea of what to do, Andrew called and asked if I was interested in a piano. I said "man I'm not sure.. how much are we talking?" He said "no no I want to give it to you". Well I was floored to say the least but they very graciously donated it to the Hideaway and entrusted me to take care of it. So the next time you sit at this beautiful piano on our stage, make sure you tip your hat and say thank you to Bonnie! Thank you Andrew and the whole family for this beautiful gift... May it always sing us a song!
On behalf of Nicole and everyone here at the Hideaway Cafe, Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Now we party!!
